Three organizations have excavated and researched the Germanna site in search of a greater understanding of the area in the time of Alexander Spotswood. The Virginia Research Center of Archaeology, Mary Washington College, and the Historic Gordonsville, Inc. have performed archaeological work on the site, interpreting their findings to explain the architecture and history of Germanna.
